How Long does it take to Recover from Porn Addiction?

For anyone hooked to porn addiction and wants to stop, the big question is how long does the battle against porn addiction take?
Chances are that you have come across different success stories of people who managed to beat porn addiction but they took varying lengths of time to achieve their success.

Setting a fixed amount of time in which it is expected for someone to beat porn is next to impossible. In fact, beating porn itself is not a guarantee.

There are people who never managed to beat porn all through their life. Therefore, when you embark on this journey of overcoming porn addiction, let your main focus be on beating the addiction rather than how long it will take you.

I will give you some tips that will help you gauge how long the battle might take you and also speed up your recovery from the dirty addiction. These are the tips I wish I had learned when I began battling against porn.

It took me close to a full decade and a lot of drama before I managed to beat porn addiction. You can read more about my dramatic story of overcoming porn in my eBook on porn.

Accepting that Porn is a Problem

In my early years after learning about porn and masturbation, I never saw it as a problem. I enjoyed watching dirty content. I felt within me that I was doing something wrong but I never bothered to think it through.

Everyone begins at this stage. It is very rare to find someone who has just learned about porn and immediately wants to quit it.

The fact that you want to quit porn already shows that you have been at it for quite some time and you have realized that it is a problem.

I sadly know that there are some people on the internet that claim there is nothing wrong with watching porn. I have never spoken to them but I’m pretty sure most of them are yet to get to this first point of realizing that porn is a problem.

The longer you stay in denial, the longer it will take you to beat the addiction. If you have read those articles and you are not sure if porn is a problem, I’m here to announce to you that porn is a serious problem that needs urgent attention.

The earlier you agree with this truth, the quicker your recovery will be. It is also true that the longer you watch porn, the harder it becomes to come out of it. This is common sense.

If you have been tuning your mind to use masturbation as a stress reliever for the last five years, prepare to undo the five year investment you have established.

Someone who has only been addicted for a year will likely take a shorter time to recover than someone who has been addicted for five years. However, that is not a big deal.

The most important thing is that you start your journey to freedom as soon as now.

Opening Up to get Help

After accepting that porn is a problem that needs to be solved, the next step is to accept that you need help. There are many people who know that porn is a problem but they are trying to solve it secretly.

I wish it was not the case but I will tell you the truth, it is difficult to beat porn addiction on your own. The more you open up about it, the easier it becomes to solve it.

A big chunk of the ten years in which I was addicted to porn, I kept it as a secret. I first shared my problem with someone about five years into the addiction.

Before I eventually overcame the addiction, I had shared it with over a three thousand people on my blog and social media. You may not need to share your secret struggles with such a large number of people but you will need to share with someone.

If you are married, you will have to start by confessing it to your partner. A good partner should be able to understand especially if you say you want to stop it.

Being addicted is not your problem. There is only a problem if you are not willing to be helped out of it. Again, the quicker you open up about your struggle, the faster your recovery will be.

You will be surprised at just how many people are willing to help you through the battle. Some will not necessarily help you but they will join you in the battle.

Their trust in you will motivate you to fight even harder. Don’t fool yourself that you can beat porn addiction secretly. You will regret not having learned the truth early enough. But I have told it to you.

Accepting the Help you get

The irony is that there are people who accept that they need help but when help comes, they refuse it.

You may accept that porn is a problem, and accept that you need help but when people suggest to you solutions, you refuse them.

Well, some solutions may be outright outrageous and you should reject them. But when you are advised wisely, the quicker you obey the faster you heal.

I have been through the battle and I know all the stages involved. In all humility, I advise people to begin with background checks.

The background checks don’t necessarily link directly to porn addiction and some people never do them. But as long as you don’t do the background checks, you will struggle to beat porn.

Sometimes the recommendations I give cost money. I may recommend a book that costs money but I know why it is important for anyone who wants to beat porn to read that book.

The eBook I wrote contains details of my addiction days. When you read my story, your belief that porn addiction can actually be beaten will be strengthened.

You will also see similarities which should encourage you to fight. By reading my success story, you will make a great step in your recovery journey.

The reason why you said you wanted to be a pilot, doctor or lawyer while you were young is because you saw a pilot, doctor or lawyer living a good life.

Likewise, if you want to beat porn, you will need to motivate yourself with the success stories of people who overcame it.

Conclusion

How long will it take you to beat porn addiction? In simple terms, it will take you as long as you allow it. And you allow it by rebelling against the three steps I have outlined above.

It took me a whooping ten years to fully align myself to the three steps. And it was only at that time that I got my freedom.

But for you, it shouldn’t take long if you diligently follow through the instructions. Buy whatever resources need to be bought, pay for whatever service needs to be paid for and push through like a warrior.

I’m confident that it can take less than six months to completely beat porn.

All the best in your battle!
