It is common to hear of failed attempts in getting rid of porn addiction. Each of the failed attempts always has a good reason behind it.
Once you learn how to avoid the mistakes that many people make while trying to beat porn addiction, you will win your war against porn addiction.
Having overcome the addiction myself after several failed attempts and a decade of struggling, I will share with you how to stop the addiction completely.
If you are interested in reading my story on how I got hooked to porn and masturbation, the crazy things I did in an attempt to get rid of porn and how I eventually won the battle, read my eBook.
Overcoming porn addiction is possible. It is important to mention this statement because people who are addicted to porn often feel it is impossible to overcome porn addiction.
The urges are usually very strong; resisting them feels like standing in front of a 40 ton truck moving at 100 miles per hour.
But despite the odds being against you, there is an ingenious formula that will guarantee you victory. It took me close to 10 years before I finally mastered the formula and won my battle against porn addiction.
But had I learned the formula early, it wouldn’t have taken me that long.
Forget all Lies
In all honesty, I would advise anyone who wants to get rid of porn addiction to forget many of the ways he has been taught to use to get rid of porn.
I tried majority of the methods advised on the internet. I tried going to bed early, I tried restriction apps and several other methods. In the end, I found myself still stuck in the addiction.
The advice given on the internet is well intentioned but unfortunately it is not well thought out. Sometimes the people that give the advice have never been victims of porn addiction themselves.
They only talk about it theoretically. What they say should logically work but it doesn’t work because porn addiction beats common logic.
As I came to realize, porn was something I hated but I found myself drawn to it. I enjoyed watching it but I would bitterly regret immediately after watching it. How is that logical?
When I tried apps that restrict adult content, they relied entirely on my discipline. But at that time, I enjoyed the thrill I would get from watching porn and masturbating.
It wouldn’t take long before I uninstalled them and indulged in my usual habit. Using apps to restrict yourself doesn’t cure porn addiction, it only keeps dirty content away from you.
Porn addiction is a problem inside of you not outside. You can’t cure it using external means. Some say that you can beat the addiction by taking a cold shower before you go to bed.

But I’ll ask, will you be taking cold showers before you go to bed for the rest of your life? That is insanely hard to keep.
I tried the cold shower thing but I still masturbated afterwards. There is nothing magical in it.
I am not here to discourage you from trying out the methods of beating porn addiction given on the internet but I want to save you precious time.
At the end of the day, what will set you free from your addiction is none of those procedures given on the internet. It is more about what will change within you. And I’m here to tell you how to start that internal change.
The Demon in your Mind
Porn is in your mind. You can take away all pornographic materials from your house and from your phone but you will still be a porn addict.
It will only be a matter of time before you find yourself back into the habit of watching porn and masturbating. Once your mind is hooked to porn, it cannot forget
Today, I am not addicted to porn but I still know all the porn websites I used to visit. I occasionally come across pornographic content on the internet. It is next to impossible to stop seeing pornographic content all together.
You will walk on the street and see girls in miniskirts. One day you will be in a park and accidentally see the pants of a lady sitting in a bad position. It is only a transformed mind that will be able to resist the urge to fall back into porn and masturbation.
That is why I began by discrediting the advice that tells you to avoid pornographic content. I hope you are now seeing why porn addiction is an internal problem and not external.
The phone I use today is exactly the same phone I was using to watch porn but I no longer watch porn on it. The bed I sleep in is the same bed I masturbated in for many years. It never changed.
Girls that I meet on the street still put on provocative dresses but I have a transformed mind. I’ve learned to shoot down any demons of porn that raise their ugly heads in me.
The best thing you can do in an attempt to beat porn addiction is to work on changing your mindset. Changing your mindset will take time. But the day you attain a certain level of transformation, you won’t need anything external to help you stop porn addiction.
How to Transform your Mind
Now that you know that porn addiction can only end once you have a transformed mind, the next question to ask is how can you transform your mind?
Mind transformation is an endless process that goes on throughout our lives. Our minds continuously take in information from our surrounding.
The information we take in shapes our minds in specific ways which then affects our behavior. I’m sure you have heard of the statement ‘monkey see, monkey do.’
The statement basically says we are just like monkeys that do exactly what they see other monkeys doing. Another version of the monkey see, monkey do statement says ‘You are the average of your five closest friends.’
At the end of the day, you become what you feed your mind with. If you are hooked to watching adult content, your mind has come to a conclusion that adult content is the best form of entertainment.
You will have to progressively teach your mind to get accustomed to a different form of entertainment. Once you achieve that, you will no longer go to porn as your favorite form of entertainment.

Next, you may want to get rid of porn as your lullaby. There are people who can’t sleep unless they have watched porn. Some watch porn and masturbate as a way to release tension and get sleep.
Gradually, you will have to teach your mind a new way of calming down and falling asleep. It is only after your mind gets accustomed to the new way of thinking that you will be able to resist the urges to watch porn.
Once you have uprooted porn from your daily habits, you will easily resist the urges. In fact, your very own mind will do the resisting. It will then become a subconscious act and that is when you can say you are free from porn.
Where to Find Help
In my case, it took me time to find out that my porn addiction was a form of coping with emotional childhood abuse. My mind used porn to mask the pain of my childhood.
Once I learned that, I began to work on healing from my childhood trauma. And as my childhood pain decreased, so did the urge to watch porn.
Eventually, my mind no longer found porn and masturbation as anything meaningful since there was no pain for it to mask.
I recommend you work with a therapist to help you uncover the root cause of your porn addiction. Having a professional guide you will make your journey a lot easier and your chances of making mistakes will be low.
You will also realize that there are many other issues in your life caused by the same problem. For instance, relationship struggles are often a common effect of being addicted to porn.
A therapist should be able to help you root out all those issues. You deserve to live a happy life. Don’t settle for less.
All the best!
