Concerning evangelism, Jesus said we are to go into the world and preach the gospel to all creation and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus did not only send the disciples He had at that time but everyone else who would believe in Him. Jesus desires us to draw many people to God through evangelism.
Jesus pioneered evangelism by shedding His blood so that we could be reconciled to God. After the sacrifice of Calvary, evangelism was made easy.
No longer are we required to offer sacrifices for the atonement of our sin because Jesus offered a perfect sacrifice once and for all.
Today, all we need is to present ourselves as the foot of the cross that we may be washed by the blood of Jesus. Once our sins are wiped away, we are to go into the world and invite others to be washed by the blood of Jesus.
Evangelism is the method that Jesus gave us to draw others to God. Jesus said we are like sheep among wolves in the world.
We know that the world hated Jesus and it hates anyone who associates with Him. As we go out to evangelize, people of the world will do all manner of evil to us.
Jesus told us that the people of the world will hand us over to the authorities, some of us will be flogged and even others put to death.
Evangelism according to Jesus is less of a fun fair where many people are reconciled to God and more of a persecution affair for those taking the good news to the world.
That is why Jesus asks His disciples to be as shrewd as serpents. When we go out for evangelism, we should expect backlash from the world. Many times we will have to flee from one town to another just as Jesus said it.
But the assurance is that before we are rejected in all towns, Jesus would have returned. Therefore, let’s take heart and reach out.
