When you want to quit watching porn and masturbation, it is important to have an accountability partner. But today’s society stigmatizes against men addicted to porn.
In most cases, men who want to find help with their addiction to porn resort to working it out alone. Unfortunately, porn addiction is not easy to beat if you go at it alone.
The worldwide community called nofap began as a mere group of people holding each other accountable but it has grown to a worldwide movement.
Just to make something clear, I am no longer addicted to watching porn. I was addicted to it since 2009 until mid-2020. That is over 10 years of porn and masturbation!
I did a lot of weird stuff during the 10 year period. If you have been watching porn for a while, you certainly must be experiencing what I experienced.
If you want to read my full journey to overcoming porn and masturbation, read it in my eBook.
No Fap group
It is not such a helpful resource if you want to quit pornography addiction.
However, the good news is that you really don’t need to use no fap to get rid of your addiction to porn. I managed to quit my addiction to porn without using nofap.
In fact, no fap is hard for many people and its success rate is low. I tried it way back during my addiction days but I never managed to get rid of the addiction.
I found nofap to be more of a way to just mask porn addiction and fapping. Of course you can go for several days or even months without fapping but trust me you are still a porn addict.
No fap is not the only Hope
In my other article, Does nofap ever get easier?, I tell the whole truth about no fap. If you truly want to get free from porn addiction and never fall back into it, nofap is not for you.
Instead, you should spend time learning about your addiction to porn. Start by investigating the root cause of your addiction.
There is no way you will quit porn if you don’t know why you watch it in the first place. I’m telling you this from my own experience.
I tried all manner of things to get rid of porn but I kept going back to it. I installed a porn blocking app but then when the urges would come, I would disable it and watch porn.
I tried going nofap cold turkey but after a week and a few days, the urges came like a flood and overwhelmed me.
What I didn’t realize was that my very own mind was working against me. There was no way I was going to win the battle against my own mind.
What led me to overcome pornography addiction
After careful studying, I realized that my mind was using porn to escape from painful childhood memories. My mind was using porn to cheer me up whenever I felt low.
After discovering that the problem was deeper than just desiring to see naked bodies, I decided to dig into the root cause.
I did a crazy thing; I allowed myself to watch porn whenever the urges would come. I never resisted them.
At that time, I was more concerned about understanding the root cause. Day after day I kept discovering hidden pains within my heart.
I learned the pattern of events that was bringing masturbation urges. I followed the pattern to the source and found further important information.
After a few years of continuously studying myself, I found the source of my addiction to porn. I then embarked on solving it.
It took me several trials before I began to see changes. Day by day, I found it a lot easier to resist urges to watch porn.
Before I knew it, I was going for several months without getting tempted to watch porn. Even when I would get the urge to watch porn, it wouldn’t last more than three minutes.
It got to a point I would begin watching a porn video and stop barely a minute into it. The thrill of watching porn was quickly fading.
Eventually, all the urges disappeared when I fully sorted out the childhood pain that was hidden within my heart.
Ever since, I have not gotten any urges to watch porn. I don’t even count my days of freedom. I’ve been roused by girls dressed seductively on the streets but the urges quickly fade immediately the girl disappears from my sight.
My mind automatically switches off whenever I’m exposed to dirty content. The freedom I’m experiencing is sweet.
